How to layout a design with the concepts of gestalt in mind? That was the challenge here. I elected to keep the title and content close, while letting the background design do the heavy lifting. The imagery is all type, each skull and bones were made with letter forms stacked on each other to make more complicated shapes. We were tasked with the design of two posters, one expressive, and one minimalist.
Gestalt in Practice
The minimalist poster required me to think big, using a small amount of content to make the poster filled out was difficult, but this is my favored style of design. I used Cathedral Rock as a silhouette, and did my best to represent the department through color. I wanted the viewer's eyes to follow the rocks, reading the title and body, and ending with the logo and contact info on the bottom right.
